The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Parables. Jesus often spoke in parables. What did he mean by the above statement? That is the beauty of it. Jesus wanted to draw us into a discussion. Jesus wanted us to reflect. Jesus wanted us to ponder. Jesus wanted us to contemplate. Jesus was not planning on giving us an answer. Jesus wanted us to discover the answer for ourself. What is the Kingdom of God? Why is it so valuable? Why will it bring joy?
I am ok with this. I am ok with being challenged to discover the answer on my own. I don’t want someone telling me exactly what I need to think. I don’t want someone telling me how I should act. I want to learn at my pace. I want to reflect at my pace. I want to engage others at my pace. I want to feel like the man in this statement felt. I want to feel overjoyed with what I discover to be the answer for me. I want to continue to explore what this answer will be for me.
What treasure will you find in the field?
