“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” — Saint Augustine
When we are restless, our God wants us to come to Him. He wants us to release our restless hearts to Him. He alone wants to carry our heavy burdens that we too often try to carry on our own.
For me, I simply talk to God. I tell him I am restless. I tell Him I do not want to feel this way. I tell Him I am releasing my burdens to Him. I will admit. It does not always work. Nevertheless, I keep at it. If something is constantly bothering me, I come again to God. I announce to Him that I am releasing it to Him.
At the present time, I have found that the following works best for me. In the evening, I retreat to a quiet room in my house. I recline on a couch. I speak to God. I simply say to God that I release the following things that have been weighing heavily on my heart. I then sit in silence and do nothing. I let all thoughts come and pass. I wait. Usually within a few minutes, I begin to feel both calm and at peace. I remain reclined for a few more minutes. I end my session.
I do not know what will work for you. We each need to learn how to rest in God in our own way. I do not think there is one right way. There is only the way that God and you have together decided upon.
How do you rest in God?
Great way of resting! You are so right–just as each of us are individual, God wants to communicate with each one in a unique and individual way. What fits you, or my friend, or my grandma does not necessarily fit me. But we know this for sure–God wants to communicate with us, and has both arms open wide.
