Prayer is simple. Prayer is as simple as one word. It is a person’s name spoken to God.
Sometimes we make prayer more complicated than it needs to be. Many times, I recite what is referred to as the Jesus Prayer. At full length this prayer is, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner”.
I shorten it. I recite, “Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me”. If I am praying for others, I recite, “Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on “name”. That is it. Nothing more needs to be said.
At night, I like to walk. It is not uncommon for me to begin my walk by reciting this prayer and simply filling in people’s names. I will spend a good portion of my walk reciting this prayer. I believe that when I say this prayer, that Jesus is praying directly to God for the name I filled in.
It is so simple. I don’t need to go on and on. I say this short prayer. And let it rest in God.
