Why Do You Fail To See?

It is important to slow down.  Turn off our cell phones, iPads, laptops and televisions.  There is a magnificent world out there that we fail to see.  We are too busy.  We have buried ourselves within our rushed and hectic lives.

I do not want to miss the joy and spontaneous wonder that my eight-year old son experiences as he flies a kite in our backyard.  My daughter enjoys to write.  She has an amazing and vivid imagination.  She bubbles with excitement as she shares recent chapters she has written from her futuristic tales.  My eldest son loves cars.  His eyes light up when he rattles off the details of the latest sports car model.ipad-1411864_1280

When I take a walk or ride my bike I see the beauty that surrounds me.  The morning sun rises in the distance and shines its radiance upon the earth.   Large cotton ball clouds fill the sky.  Birds sing and dogs bark.  Flowers bloom.

The night has a beauty all to itself.  Millions of stars light up the night sky.  Crickets chirp and fireflies blink.  An owl hoots in the distance. The gentle breeze on the back of my neck cools me off.

The quiet of the night calms and soothes me.  It beckons me to pause.  All I want to do is rest in the arms of the night and let them gently embrace me.  My work for the day is complete.  It is time to put my feet up and relax.  Tomorrow will take care of itself.

Holy Silence: The Quaker Way by J. Brent Bill:  Quaker silence is not about stillness, as such, but rather about encountering God in a living and vital holy hush. This e-course encourages women and men to undertake a journey of spiritual silence. The destination is a quiet inner place where God teaches us directly. Friends (as Quakers are formally known) have been honing their take on silence for more than 350 years. It’s a silence that invites us to an immediate and personal encounter with God. That’s because Quakers believe that when we are silent, then the Spirit of God grants us insights, guidance, and understanding of spiritual truth.

Sounds True has titles by teachers and authors such as Thomas Keating, Cynthia Bourgeault, James Finley, Richard Rohr, David Frenette, Parker Palmer , Eckhart  Tolle , Michael Singer , Jon Kabat-Zinn , Marianne Williamson to name a few.

Themes in the Gospel of John by N. T. Wright:  The course approaches the Gospel of John in a way that looks at seven key themes. These themes bind the Fourth Gospel together in a manner that allows us to see this ‘new way of living’ as possible for followers of King Jesus. In so doing, we then apply these themes to the current era in order to ask ourselves questions about how we are putting them into practice. In a way, this is the story of how to live out being the presence of God on earth through the indwelling of God’s spirit.

This course is a short course based on Prof. N.T. Wright’s latest book, Simply Good News. Tom Wright will guide you through the chapters of his book through videos that suggest what some of the main points are. You will instantly get into the heart of the idea of ‘good news’ as it was understood by the 1st Century writers of the New Testament. You will be brought into their world in order to make more sense of what ‘good news’ means in our world.

Christian Prayer Methods: Prayer is a core Christian practice, but for many, this means “saying prayers” or asking God for various favors. In this course, we will review a variety of methods of prayer that have been used for centuries in Christianity. Whether you’re a beginner who is just learning how to pray, or a more mature Christian who has been at it awhile, this course will offer specific guidance, encouragement and support for practicing several time-tested methods of prayer.
