Centering prayer connects you to your true self: the person God wishes you to be.
During centering prayer, we let go of all thoughts and emotions and open to the presence and actions of God within.
We connect to our true self.
We then get up from our sits and take our true self actions.
Let me share how it works for me.
I am a big believer in affirmations.
An affirmation is a single sentence statement of what I want to accomplish.
I have affirmations jotted down in various areas of my life: spiritual, family, career, personal, and financial.
I consider them my true self affirmations.
I like to read them to God as I begin my centering prayer practice.
I then let them go.
I let them brew with God.
I like to think of it as I partner with God on them.
I also have what I call my “true-self affirmation barometer.”
This is how it works.
A true-self affirmation will continue to be worked on if I have an inner peace and excitement about it, even if it makes me nervous because it is outside of my comfort zone, and it does not harm me or others.
If it does not pass this test, I tweak it or eliminate it.
I sit with God and then I get up from my sits and walk with God.
It is a constant partnership.
God is a powerful presence as part of this process.
God is behind me and nudges me forward, God holds my hand and walks with me, God is a few steps ahead of me and encourages me to keep my forward progress, and God is within me and provides me with inner peace and wisdom for my daily tasks.
I am excited to share a new book by Amos Smith, Holistic Mysticism: The Integrated Spiritual Path of the Quakers. (Amos wrote the Foreword of my book, Sitting with God.)
Explore the essence of contemplative wisdom and spiritual growth. “Sitting with God” offers a path to inner peace and self-discovery, making it an ideal gift for the holiday season.
I have updated my Resource page to reflect what I am currently reading, one or two featured books, and just a few products I have found very helpful. And a reminder that Sounds True has a Holiday sale on various items. Take a look. I hope you find this slimmed down approach much easier to peruse.
