Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone—One Book Signing at a Time
I really enjoy doing meet and greet book signings for my book, Sitting with God: A Journey to Your True Self Through Centering Prayer.
Over the past few years, I’ve had the pleasure of hosting several at The Mule Barn Mercantile. My book is on the shelves there year-round, and if you’re ever in the Waxhaw, NC area, I encourage you to stop by. The store features a wonderful variety of goods from local vendors—it’s truly a fun place to explore! Click here to check it out.
The Mule Barn’s visitors are used to seeing authors and book signings, but my most recent event was a bit different.
This time, I did a meet and greet at Jebena Café, a cozy local coffee shop. They graciously placed a few copies of Sitting with God on their counter for sale and invited me to set up for an author signing. Since customers there aren’t typically expecting to see an author, it felt like stepping into new territory for me.
Here’s a picture from my October 11th signing.
During the event, I had three deep, meaningful conversations about centering prayer—how it differs from verbal prayer and how it can open us to God’s transforming presence. Those moments of connection are why I love doing these events.
As I was leaving, the café owner encouraged me to take things a step further next time—
to get up, introduce myself to others in the shop, and invite them over to chat.
He was convinced that people would love to meet me and learn more about the book.
And I have to add this: if you’re a mocha lover, Jebena Café makes the best hot mocha I’ve ever had! I treat myself to one every time I visit. ☕️
Next time, I plan to take the owner’s advice. I’ll gently nudge myself to say hello, share that I’m the author of Sitting with God, and invite anyone interested to stop by, browse the book, or simply ask me questions.
Centering prayer has healed and transformed me—really, God has done this work in me through the silence. I simply want to share it with others, in case it can do the same for them.
And now that I’ve shared this here, I’m holding myself accountable to follow through.
What about you?
👉 What’s one thing you’ve been nudged to do that feels just a little bit outside your comfort zone—but you know it’s the right next step?
I’d love to hear from you. Together, we can encourage each other to grow and take that next faithful step.
