Partnering with God Through Affirmations

How do I use affirmations?

I write my affirmations in the present tense, beginning with:

“I am so happy and grateful now that I…”

I create them for the key areas of my life—my marriage, children, career, health, website, finances, and more.

I keep them in the Notes app on my iPhone so I can read through them anytime. I’ve also recorded them on my phone and listen to them before going to bed and again first thing in the morning. I want these truths to soak into my subconscious with God as I rest, and greet me again as I begin a new day.

I bring my affirmations into prayer.
I give them to God.
I partner with God on them.

Before centering prayer, I often read them silently to God, offering them in love and trust before entering into the prayer of silence.

How do I know if an affirmation should stay?

I have a personal barometer:

  • It excites me.

  • It gives me inner peace and calm.

  • It stretches me outside of my comfort zone (which is good—growth happens there).

  • It harms no one, including myself.

  • It aligns with God’s movement within.

If all of these are true, I keep the affirmation.
If not, I refine it—or release it entirely.

Affirmations help keep me focused on what truly matters. They remind me of who I am becoming and who God is inviting me to be—one step, one prayer, one day at a time.
