Centering Prayer Doesn’t End When the Sit Ends

I Am Not Just Sitting With God During Centering Prayer

Let me explain.

Yes, we do sit with God when we practice centering prayer.
We intentionally set aside time to rest in silence and consent to God’s presence and action within us.

But when our sit ends, we don’t stand up and say,
“Okay God, I’ll see you at the next sit.”

God comes with us.

When we rise from the chair or cushion, God is with us.

As we step into the shower and prepare for the day,
God is with us.

When we work from home or get in the car and drive to work,
God is with us.

As the workday begins,
God is with us.

When challenges arise, pressures mount, or frustration appears,
God is with us.

Whether we are a stay-at-home mom or dad caring for children,
God is with us.

At the end of the day, as we drive home,
God is with us.

As we sit down to eat dinner,
God is with us.

When we relax in the evening or spend time with friends,
God is with us.

And when we finally lay our heads down to sleep,
God is with us.

You see, we are not only sitting with God during our once- or twice-a-day silent prayer.

Centering prayer helps us remember a deeper truth:

God is always with us.

And over time, we begin to live from that awareness.
