Journaling is a simple yet transformative practice that I highly encourage everyone to try. It’s not just about putting pen to paper or fingers to keys—it’s about uncovering clarity, fostering growth, and connecting with your inner self.

The Benefits of Journaling

Here are some of the powerful fruits I’ve noticed from my own journaling practice:

  1. Clarity and Focus
    Journaling helps me process the actions God prays within me during centering prayer. By writing them down, I gain clarity on what steps to take next.
  2. Confidence and Excitement
    Reflecting on my progress and goals boosts my confidence and ignites excitement for the future.
  3. Self-Awareness
    Journaling helps me understand what truly makes me happy and what weighs me down—insights I might miss without this practice.
  4. Productivity
    Starting my day with journaling sets a positive tone, making my day more focused and productive.

Examples of Actions Inspired by Journaling

Here are some goals I’ve journaled that are either completed or in progress:

  • Editing my second book
  • Joined a gym and committing to weekly workouts
  • Going on weekly dates with my wife
  • Spending one-on-one time with my kids
  • Focusing on affiliate marketing strategies
  • Building new affiliate relationships
  • Continuing one-on-one coaching
  • Planned and moved to another state
  • Explored and found a new job opportunity 

When to Journal

I find mornings to be the best time for journaling. It sets a reflective and intentional tone for the day. However, you can journal anytime—it’s about finding what works for you.

Journal Prompts and Techniques

If you’re not sure where to start, here are some tips:

  • Use prompts like:
    • What is one thing I’m grateful for today?
    • What actions can I take to move closer to my goals?
    • What’s weighing on my mind right now?
  • Let thoughts flow naturally. Even if you don’t know what to write, start typing or jotting down words—it often leads to surprising insights.
  • Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to journal. Single words, phrases, sentences, plans, reflections, or even venting—it’s all valid.
