All I Need Is Within: What Does That Really Mean?
What does it mean to say, “All I need is within me”?
It means that when I turn inward, I connect with the Spirit of God that dwells within. I am not God—but God’s Spirit lives in me, and that Spirit provides what I need for this very moment.
What might that be?
- Inner peace
- Calm in chaos
- Wisdom for the tasks at hand
- Physical or emotional healing
- Creative solutions to problems
- Clarity and direction
- Focus and renewed energy
- The spark of new goals and dreams
And that’s just a short list.
Turning inward doesn’t mean I do nothing. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. When I go within, I align my will with God’s. From that sacred place of union, I take action. Grounded action. Inspired action. Fruitful action.
So how do I go within?
🕊 Centering Prayer – My twice-daily practice draws me into stillness, where I simply sit with God and allow the noise to fall away.
✍️ Journaling – This is where I write what’s rising within me: the nudges, the questions, the clarity. I jot down the short-, medium-, and long-term goals that come from prayerful reflection. I also ask God questions—and trust the answers will come in time.
☕ Down Time – Whether I’m walking, sipping coffee, or watching a favorite show, I’m often surprised by sudden moments of insight. That’s why I keep the Notes app open on my phone—ready to catch the quiet whisper of wisdom when it arrives.
To go within is to partner with God. I could choose to go it alone—but why would I? The Spirit offers me infinite resources: peace, strength, vision, and love.
All I need is truly within.
And all of it points me back to the Source who knows me, equips me, and walks with me every step of the way.

Carl McColman, author of The New Big Book of Christian Mysticism, reminds us that there is an ancient “”third way”” of approaching the Bible: reading scripture like a mystic. Click here to read.
Books I’m Reading—and Why I Think They Matter
I love sharing what I’m reading—especially when a book has the power to shift perspectives, encourage growth, or deepen spiritual practice. Here are two that are speaking to me right now:
📘Thrive Not Just Survive: How to Live From Within by D. Scott Cook
“The whole point of being in this physical life is to raise your vibrations to love, gratitude, thankfulness, joy, generosity, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22, 23).”
“We can continue trying, doing, and expending tremendous energy to create the desired results. Or we can live in the flow of the spiritual river within us and see life come to us naturally, providing opportunities at the right place and time.”
“We are co-creators with the Source of all life each moment.”
“In spirit, you are at peace, rest, and powerful. All that you need is and has always been within you.”
📘Faith by Dr. Joe Vitale.
“Faith is the magic that turns seeds into flowers, and in our lives, can turn thoughts and dreams into realities.”
“It’s not that faith will automatically make everything come easy—but it’s definitely what will see you through to the end, and that’s the most important part.”
“That’s what having faith means: your actions follow your thoughts seamlessly towards a goal which becomes inevitable.”
Let me know if you decide to read either one—or if you have something powerful on your bookshelf right now. I’m always looking for the next good read.
