I always love returning to the writings of Thomas Keating.
Right now, I’m slowly making my way through one of his later and shorter books, That We May Be One: Christian Non-Duality. Though brief, it carries such depth. His lifetime of centering prayer practice allows him to put into words the transforming power of silence and surrender.
A couple of lines stood out to me:
“We are in God and our actions are to be motivated by the Spirit’s movement, inspiration, and guidance within us into oneness with the Trinity.”
“We cannot possibly exist without God being in us since God is everywhere.”
I find myself pausing often with these words. I want my daily actions—whether as a father, husband, son, sibling, friend, employee, entrepreneur, or neighbor—to flow from the Spirit’s movement within me.
That’s why I sit in centering prayer twice a day: once to begin the day and once again in the early afternoon. Centering prayer brings me back into sync with God. It reminds me that I don’t have to move through life alone.
When I forget this truth—when I operate from fear, panic, or self-reliance—I quickly feel stuck, unsure, and lacking confidence. But when I remember that God is within me, fully available to inspire and guide, everything shifts.
With God, I know all will be well.
I move forward in faith and confidence because God and I are partners. I often do not know the how—I just know I need to keep moving forward, and God will reveal the how and next steps. Clarity and path become clear as I trust God and move forward with even small action steps.
