Hi friends,
This morning I felt a nudge to open my journal and type.
My journal is simple.
It’s just a Word document.
I type the date and begin writing whatever comes to mind.
My writing tends to be simple too, short, concise sentences.
Today I began with:
I don’t know what to type.
And that’s okay.
So, I asked myself a simple question:
What do I want to do this weekend?
Today I want to enjoy coffee with my wife while we watch a Hallmark movie.
Maybe later we’ll go out for a beer if we feel like it.
I want to take the dogs for a walk through the neighborhood.
I want to text my daughter and see how her Saturday is going.
I also want to prepare the weekly meditation I’ll send to you on Monday morning.
And at some point this afternoon, I’ll take my centering prayer sit.
Like centering prayer, today I want to let go and open myself to the presence and action of God.
Sometimes I simply ask:
What does God want me to do today?
First, listen.
Then act.
If God says relax,
relax.
If God says do the dishes,
do the dishes.
Today isn’t a workday.
But honestly, the Spirit can direct us on workdays too 😊
I want to trust that guidance.
I’m often reminded that my doing flows best out of my being.
We need both rest and action.
They are partners that work beautifully together.
Today feels like a day for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
And that’s okay.
In fact, it’s necessary.
We all need days like this.
What will you do this weekend?
Later today I plan to listen to a book I’m really enjoying, Ordinary Mysticism by Mirabai Starr. I especially like that the audiobook is narrated by her.
