I love this quote by Jim Murphy in The Best Possible Life:
“So how might you go about finding your life purpose?
You can start by considering a simple statement that’s powerful for us all:
My purpose is to love God and love others.”
That feels like a beautiful place to begin if you feel stuck.
So how can we love God?
We can sit quietly with God in the silence of centering prayer.
I had to say that 😊.
We can read Scripture.
We can take a walk in nature and enjoy what God created.
We can express gratitude to God for the small, medium, and large things in our lives.
And how can we love others?
Do not make it complicated.
It is often much simpler than we think.
Text or call someone and let them know you love them and have been thinking about them.
Smile at a stranger while taking a walk or ordering a cup of coffee.
Listen to someone who is hurting.
Often people are not looking for advice.
They simply want to be heard.
Volunteer somewhere.
Serve someone.
Encourage someone.
Let people know they matter.
I also believe God places a unique purpose in each of our hearts.
A unique way we can help, serve, encourage, and love the world around us.
And the exciting part is this:
There is no final arrival point.
It is a beautiful journey.
Our role is to listen to the inner nudge we sense…
and then gently take the next step.
Trust it.
Which really means trusting God.
And see where it leads.
