What happens during centering prayer?
A lot.
Let me explain.
We let go of thoughts and emotions we are aware of.
We also let go of repressed thoughts and emotions we are not immediately aware of.
Each time we sit in silence, tension in our body is released.
We release emotional and physical stress that God does not want us to carry.
Before centering prayer, we may not even realize this has become our normal state.
We carry stress.
We carry tension.
We carry thoughts and emotions that weigh us down.
Then we sit.
We consent to God’s presence and action within us.
We gently return when our mind wanders.
And something begins to shift.
We begin to feel lighter.
More free.
More joyful.
More alive.
We become more present to this moment and all it has to offer.
Over time, the barriers between us and our true self begin to fall away.
We begin to live from the person God created us to be.
We begin to notice the actions God is inviting us to take.
Our true self is not a one-time destination.
It is a beautiful journey we take as we partner with God.
I encourage you to begin, or begin again, and see what happens.
Sit quietly.
Gently return.
Let God do what only God can do.
