I came across a line in Wisdom Untethered by Michael A. Singer (affiliate link) that really made me stop and think.
“You are something very great—you are pure love and oneness.”
Powerful.
It reminded me of something I have been learning through centering prayer.
God is love.
God is within me.
God has always been within me.
As I sit quietly and let go of my thoughts, I become more aware of God’s loving presence.
And when I live from that place, amazing things begin to happen.
My will and God’s will begin to come together.
I become a little more open.
A little more peaceful.
A little more willing to take the next faithful step.
The other word that stood out to me was oneness.
What does that mean?
It reminds me that I am not meant to live only for myself.
I am connected to other people.
Even the people who sometimes drive me crazy.
God loves them.
I am called to love and respect them too.
We need one another.
We are meant to live in community.
We are meant to encourage one another.
Serve one another.
Love one another.
There is enough for everyone.
Life is not one giant competition.
It is an invitation to become more aware of God’s presence within us and to let that love flow into the lives of others.
That is one of the beautiful gifts of centering prayer.
We sit quietly.
We open ourselves to God.
And little by little, God’s love begins to shape the way we live.
What does the word oneness mean to you?
I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
