Never Alone: Discovering God’s Presence in the Details of Life

I continue to reflect on Thomas Keating’s short but powerful book, That We May Be One: Christian Non-Duality.

You can read last week’s reflection [here].

Keating writes:

“Whatever you do, you are not only in the presence of God, but under the influence of the Spirit suggesting within us what the proper response to every detail of daily life is.”

Wow. Read that again.

Do you really believe this?
Do you allow yourself to live from this place?

I’ll admit—I often forget.

That’s why I return again and again to my centering prayer sits. They remind me that God is within, always guiding, always present. Silent pauses throughout the day—before I react, before I speak—help me remember too. They allow me to respond from a deeper place rather than from fear, panic, or self-pity.

The truth is:
All I need is within.
My response to whatever life throws at me is within.
The infinite wisdom and resources of God are already within me.

So why do I still panic, complain, and throw myself pity parties?
Because I forget.

I forget that I am not alone.
I forget that God loves me.
I forget that God longs to walk
with me, not apart from me.
I forget that God desires to partner with me in every detail of my life.

And when I remember? Everything shifts.
