How often do we forget this?
We think we need to do life alone.
That is so far from the truth.
God is always with us and patiently waits for us to ask.
It can be as simple as:
Help me, Lord.
I am stuck.
I do not know what to do.
Please show me the next step.
The key is remembering to do this.
Just stop.
Be quiet.
And ask for guidance.
Ask. Seek. Knock.
In Matthew 7:7, Jesus says:
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.”
So simple.
Yet we probably forget to use these words when we need them most.
Our job is to keep asking.
Keep seeking.
Keep knocking.
Later in the same passage, Jesus compares God to a loving parent who gives good gifts.
The promise is not that we will receive everything we want.
The promise is that God is listening and gives what truly leads to life.
A Simple Contemplative Practice
Here is a simple contemplative way to pray with this verse:
- Sit quietly.
-
Slowly repeat the words:
Ask.
Seek.
Knock.
- Rest in silence and remain open to God.
You do not need to figure everything out alone.
Stop.
Be quiet.
Ask for guidance.
Then listen for the next step.
What do you need to ask God for today?
Not sure where to begin?
I created a simple path to help you sit quietly with God and experience more peace, clarity, and direction.
