Detach from the Outcome

Centering prayer helps me detach from the outcome.

Why is this important?

I often have a goal.

I want a particular outcome.

But God might have a better outcome.

I want to be in sync with God and the actions God wants me to take.

When I detach from the outcome, I can focus on the present moment and what it requires of me.

If I dwell on the past or worry about the future, I am not fully present.

And when I am not present, I may miss an opportunity that is right here.

Life is now.

Life happens in the present moment.

Think of a beautiful scene you are enjoying.

You are not thinking about the past.

You are not worrying about the future.

You are here.

The same thing can happen when you are fully present to the work in front of you.

You get into the flow.

Life can feel lighter and less forced.

I often experience this when I am writing.

I also experience it in my remote work when I begin working on a challenge and quickly uncover different paths toward a solution.

Centering prayer teaches me to release my thoughts during my silent sit.

That same practice follows me into the rest of my day.

I can release my need to control the outcome.

I can show up.

I can take the next faithful step.

And I can trust God with the rest.

When do you feel most present?

Grateful you are here,

Rich
